Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Manchester, New Hampshire!
Within south central New Hampshire along the Merrimack River, metropolitan Manchester serves as the Queen City gateway to northern New England. Originally named Derryfield, visionary Samuel Blodget once called it the "Manchester of America," and the name change became official in 1810. Manchester prospered with a thriving business district on Elm Street and fashionable homes in the North End and on Hanover Hill. When Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, the life's blood of early Manchester (and once the world's largest cotton textile mill) finally succumbed, thanks to the Great Depression, high-priced labor, and a devastating flood in the mid-1800s, residents converted the commercial infrastructure for public use to rebuild a town earning the tag of "the city that would not die." Attractions now range from Anheuser-Busch Brewery Tours and America's Credit Union Museum to some 900 parks in and around the city. Manchester is home to 11 colleges and universities, including the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, with enrollments totaling some 16,000 students, attracting symphony and performing arts institutions to give Merrimack Valley a vibrant cultural mix. Nearby Lake Massabesic provides freshwater fishing, beaches, hiking and biking on surrounding trails. Ski slopes, fishing and camping await between Manchester and Lake Winnipesaukee to the north with the White Mountains just beyond. Manchester boasts minor league hockey, the double-A baseball New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Arena Football with the Manchester Wolves, and New Hampshire's only pro soccer club, the NH Phantoms. For dining, Manchester boasts many family-owned establishments serving as cornerstones for tasty meals at reasonable prices. Manchester lodging options range from inns and bed and breakfasts, ski and fishing lodges, to full-service hotels in the city's central business district.
